Responsive Sites and Why They Work

No matter what the needs of a website are – from ecommerce to presentational – the feature that all sites share the necessity for is that of a consistent user experience across all devices that are used today. Rising above the rest in the success of this implementation are those sites that are designed in the responsive method, referred to as Responsive Web Design (RWD). How Does Responsive Work? When a site is designed in a responsive manner, the interface adapts to any and all screen sizes it is displayed on. Sites developed responsively are laid out to adapt to different screen resolutions, and more specifically allow for the easy display of a site design featuring multiple columns of content showing the same content on a smaller screen in a single column – all optimized for that specific screen. The Interactive Storefront: Designing for Ecommerce

Online sales worldwide have reached an all time high in the trillions and it’s clear that the majority of consumers do much of their shopping, if not all, online. This trend is only on the upswing, and with that, technological developments must keep up to meet the demand. Those impressions are what the mind experiences with the most impact, accompanied with residual feelings that act like faint images of those initial effects – causing either a conversion or a missed opportunity. Design is truly a reflection of the times, landscape and culture it resides in. With regard to website design, in order to play with an aesthetic point […]

Approaching a Responsive Strategy With Flat Design

With the prevalence of connected devices in varying sizes and dimensions, the work of interface designers requires a mobile strategy – with responsive web design (RWD) being the optimal route. While responsive design does not require a singular aesthetic, interfaces designed with a flat approach work with a responsive approach must better than many other styles. Its clear that one of the main reasons flat design has taken shape, beyond usability and the rise of minimalism, is the development of responsive design. Personified by two-dimensional, clean, smooth, crisp edges and bright colors – flat design could be coined the ‘champion of usability’. Designers who employ flat design identify with a simplified, digital aesthetic, choosing to oppose artificial realism and intricacies in favor of simple iconography. Designers who embark on a scheme that requires a responsive design and employ the same old styles including fixed imagery, shading and drop shadows quickly realize that […]
